One Duck, Another Duck

Charlotte Pomerantzの作品の中ではMangaboomが有名のようですね。ダニエルがある日森の中を歩いていると、マンゴーの木を見つけます。そこにはおどろくべき占有者がいました。巨人の女性、「マンガブーム」です。身長は19フィート。1フィート　30.5cmほどですので、19×30.5＝579cm　つまり6m近くもあるということでしょうか！驚愕！

二人は次第に共通点が多いことに気づきます・・・。
さてさてマンガブームはおいておき、one duck, another duck のお話にいきたいと思います。

one duck, another duck・・あひるともう一匹のあひる、というところでしょうか。

Danny and his grandmother went to the pond.

They saw a mother duck with her baby ducks behind her. Danny started to count them. “One duck, another duck, another duck, another duck…”

“No,” said Grandmother.
“You know how to count. one, two, three, and so on. Count them again.”

The ducks came out from behind the tall grass.
Danny counted. “One duck, another duck…”

Two ducks, another duck…  Three ducks, another duck…
Four ducks, another duck…  Five ducks…

Danny looked and looked.    “Another duck?” he asked.

5匹のあひるのあと、茂みの中からでてきたのは・・・白鳥のように見えますね。

one duck, another duckは、数の数え方をおばあちゃんあひるが孫あひるに教えます。こどもと一緒に読むことでカウントの仕方をあひるといっしょに学びます。
